Your feedback is golden!
The majority of those of you who are on my mailing list, and so receive my posts, first let me say how much I appreciate you. I began this mailing list when my first book was published, under the pseudonym “Claire Gem,” back in 2015. Since then I have published 6 more contemporary romance novels, in addition to a 3-book series of historical romance under the pseudonym “Gemma St. Claire.”
At some point, either through a visit to my website or through claiming a free book during a campaign, you were generous enough to share your email address. Now I am asking what I can do for you.
In moving forward with my writing, I need my readers’ feedback. If you could please take the time to either comment on this post or email me directly (gem.writer@yahoo.com), I will be forever grateful.
My paranormal ghost/romance novels are standalones, linked only by their genre. Do readers prefer this? Or would you be more likely to commit to a series of connected titles with a carry-through of characters, locations, etc.?
Do most of you read eBooks or do you prefer paperbacks? I offer mine in both formats, and my eBooks are free for those with a membership in KindleUnlimited.
I am considering starting a new series. How many like the ghost elements? Or do you prefer straight contemporary romance with no paranormal elements?
Story length: I tend to write longish novels, most being over 90K words. Is this something my readers enjoy? Or would you rather have shorter (50-60K) word stories that don’t take such a time commitment?
How can I encourage readers to post reviews? I know there are paid services for reviews but I feel this is skating on the edge of attaining “honest reviews.” I read my reviews. I like knowing what my readers liked, what they didn’t like, and what I could do better.
The answers to these questions will determine the future of my authorship. I want to “write to market,” which means writing what the readership wants. In order to accomplish that, I need to know what my readers are looking for.
Thanks in advance. I so appreciate all of you sticking with me for a decade!
